Swiss National Cyclocross Signed Helmet Worlds 2013

the swiss did worlds right. they came, they raced, they raced hard, they had fun, and they are ready to come back.  you gotta love it when you can get some cool items for the bar/home bike shop. it's even better when you see your khs tent draped in swiss flags. what a great week of racing and fun. the 2013 worlds will be on my mind and in my words for some time to come.

every once in a while i say something about where the hits on the site are coming from. well this last 2 weeks almost all the hits came from europe. the usa was 4th on the list of countries. amazing!

the guy standing in front of the tent is the swiss mechanic and he happens to be from belgium. one other highlight of the weekend was cheering for the only hungarian in the race.

louisville shines for the 2nd time in 2 weeks

unless you were in a coma or don't know what a bike is then you know that the cyclocross world championships were in town. this is and was the biggest cyclocross race of the year and it was here, in louisville. it was also the first time is was held out side of europe. yes folks that's huge. the americans had a shot with jonathan page. jonathan had a few mechanical problems and this put him out of the hunt. sven nys of belgium won after a long day in the saddle.

so you're saying get to the point i already know about all this. well this weekend the bmx world will descend on the city for the usa bmx bluegrass nationals. this is the 2nd time in less than 6 months that usa bmx visits louisville for a premier event. lots of fast local guys will be there including tommy "2x4" board one fast old dude. so if you missed the cx worlds get out to freedom hall for some action this weekend.

it's not often that the cycling gods bless us with this much action in such a short time. i'll see you there.

storm the greens 2011

i really wanted to race today but i just couldn't find it in me to do it. so i headed down to take some pictures and drink some beer. yes i was heckled by many even a few prepubescent kids and was called an athletic supporter. so i guess the heckling can come from both sides of the tape. i think i may have a race somewhere in me.

the course look awesome and there seemed to be plenty of cross face to go round. beer hand ups must be done with a stiffer cup than a dixie, sorry to those of you that got no beer or just a sip.

photos are posted in the flickr/photo link to the side.

cyclocross worlds in louisville

these pictures were taken yesterday. i hope january is a little more dry because febuary and march are and were pretty wet. if you raced the usgp here last year imagine this, sand pit is under water, the dirt mound before the first barrier is under water except for the tip top of it. water is up to the big hill/big run up. the only people enjoying the part right now are ducks and geese.

there will be some serious clean up going on later.

camo,chili,and beer

why is that when you wear camo in st.matthews people seem to look at you funny. the trip to the grocery was an adventure. lots of looks. i guess i would have been a little less conspicuous if i had my starbucks coffee like everyone else. i guess a regular home cup is odd.

made some really good chili yesterday. it's good when you can say to the mrs."it needs a little something" and she springs to action with spices and herbs. this was instead of going the race at the gun club. looks like i may have missed a good one. i think the fun level would have been about the same. lots of fun.

now for the beer. on saturday after work i stopped by the mega liquor store looking for something i hadn't seen in a while. i will say that their selection of belgium beers was huge. they had the one thing i was truely looking for. 7oz high lifes. the drink all day size.

sorry no picture of the chili. i'll try and post a hot bowl later.

cyclocross talk of the town

saturday night i was at a family function and before i could say happy birthday several aunts and uncles were asking me about cross. keep in mind that we were celebrating a 70th birthday. they had lots of questions and were very interested in this weekends happenings and the worlds. i think there were some new fans in the bunch.

fishermans park cx

hopefully we get a little rain before this weekend to soften up the ground and kill the dust. everyone knows that racing at fishermans park breaks the strong and humbles the weak. this is maybe the hardest race on the ovcx schedule. see you there and bring the barf bags.

usgp louisville

after the race on sunday i came home and laid on the floor on my back booted up the computer and plugged it into the tv. ah yes the usgp of madison was on. i watched the womens and mens final. pretty awesome racing. the commentators kept mentioning how big the crowd was and this and that. well if that's all the people that came out we need to really kick ass when it comes to crowd participation. so get your asses in gear plan for the usgp weekend. come on it's right before halloween so there should be costumes and they call it trick or trat for a reason. we need dollars in the sand pits real and fake we need candy and i mean lots of hand-ups of all types. look louisville is on the map as far as a hot bed for cx, now lets make everyone know it. kinda like summer vacation with kids, what do you think, yeah that's right disney land. we are the disney land of cross.

year end awards

i was think/dreaming last night about some things. i think i'm going to try a give a little back to the people that make it so much fun to race. no not the people that put the races on but the people that heckle give out the hand -ups, and just over all encourage us out there. you know i've noticed that there are some people that just come out and support and that's awesome. i saw a few guys out there that were giving it their all and they didn't even race. that's awesome. keep up the good work. so keep your ears peeled for some type of awards function at the end of cx season and yes there will be beer. see you at the next race.

shawnee cx

i start by saying shawnee park is a true jem in the louisville park system. too bad the city doesn't see it that way. the course was great, awesome, fast, natural barriers and taped off in just over an hour with some redirection. the start of the
4's was fast very fast. hell i was even in good shape for a little while. keith morlen made his first apperence at a cx race in a while. it was a small field and i think i finished 6th. the hand-ups today in the 4's were pretty good, glazed doughnuts but no milk or coffee. maybe next week. the womens race was won by sherri from rouge and mark the first race ever for rachel fagerburg. the ss speed class was pretty good with some guys just going balls to the wall all in one gear. jesse roberson looked pretty good after racing earlier. the 3's saw brad wunderlick come out of retirement once again. brad looked pretty good for someone just coming off the couch. jeff chambers and wunderlick did the most battling. i tried to tell jeff i fixed his bike better and it was faster than brads. at this point the back was hurting bad and i needed food. if anyone has the rest of the race info please feel free to add. i don't think anyone had a bad thing to say about the course. is that possible.

Beasty Geurilla Granny Gear Cross

Holy cow folks! So I made it out last night to assist in course markings with Zach and I (more Zach really) finishing up this morning and taking some laps. Once the grass gets beaten down this place is gonna be more fun than a barrel of whatever fun things come in barrels. Laughs? Anyway, the space is so huge that the possibilities are endless. I really like what we've laid out, but obviously nothing is set in stone so if you see some more entertaining lines, have at it. Where we're riding is George Rogers Park on Poplar Level Road.

Start/finish spot runs along McKinley Avenune next to lots of grass parking. Course is marked in orange paint, just follow the directions of the arrows and you should continue to find more along the way. Minus normal obstacles it's got everything you could want. Tech sections, wild fast downhills, monster climbs, off camber fun and as Zach mentioned in the previous posts comments, the cattle shute which is kinda my favorite. All in all, I think this would be a great location for just about any MTB or cross event regardless of our layout or not. Check it out and let us know what you think. Rememeber we're not professional course designers, just trying to have some fun.

Guerilla update...

Zach and Ben are going out and marking the course tonight, I feel like an ass having to miss it, but I have funeral stuff and the like to tend to. Ima (yeah, i typed "Ima") check it out in the morning and report back. While it's all grass at the moment, as the course wears and we spend more time working out the kinks we'll be sure to add some standard cross obstacles along with some out of the ordinary ones that will make it off the wall awesome for you. You may anxiously await...

another cx race

looks like there will be a cx race sept. 26. the date isn't totally set yet.
date. sept. 26th.
place. shawnee park.
i'll post more info when available.
