camo,chili,and beer

why is that when you wear camo in st.matthews people seem to look at you funny. the trip to the grocery was an adventure. lots of looks. i guess i would have been a little less conspicuous if i had my starbucks coffee like everyone else. i guess a regular home cup is odd.

made some really good chili yesterday. it's good when you can say to the mrs."it needs a little something" and she springs to action with spices and herbs. this was instead of going the race at the gun club. looks like i may have missed a good one. i think the fun level would have been about the same. lots of fun.

now for the beer. on saturday after work i stopped by the mega liquor store looking for something i hadn't seen in a while. i will say that their selection of belgium beers was huge. they had the one thing i was truely looking for. 7oz high lifes. the drink all day size.

sorry no picture of the chili. i'll try and post a hot bowl later.

Not that you care, but here's the deal...

I had previously decided I was done with racing of all sorts. Racing being paying to ride my bicycle with a handful of people that didn't really like me or the way in which I conducted myself under such circumstances. By a way of means in which most good plans are hatched, beer, I have decided to go back on my retirement, another thing all the greats do, and play the CX game a few more times this season. The caveat being glorious and fanciful costumes must be adorned in said endeavor. The one above does not do the opportunity justice. I'm am not sure if capes will be permitted in this scheme, but we'll find out race day. Basically, whatever I can do to throw off the norm at the events I partake in will be the goal. Beer must be consumed, as we determined earlier all great plans not only begin with this elixir of the gods, bust involve it as well. Fun will be had, and hopefully we can take a bit of the seriousness out of the whole Cat4 game. Afterall, we're never going pro at this point, and even if we could, would we? That shit just sounds like work.

year gone by and a little of this and that

as of today i've been back in the bike business for a year. man i love it and missed it. i found myself rockin out to some montley crue the other day. yes i had long hair once. downloaded some peter searcy just before taking a trip. i hit 195,000 miles on the subaru, come on 200,000.
while in tennessee i drank some good beer. i had some beer from the smoky mountain brewing company. i stopped in a pretty cool bike shop while in knoxville, cedar bluff bike shop. the place was packed. we just got in the trek belleville today, a very cool bike. cross season is coming and tubulars are getting slim. we have lots of glue coming and should be here tomorrow. jimmy ride those muddy trails, we all have and we all will. you can't stop everyone and thats just the way it is. the reason people get mad is because they aren't willing to go out and do the work after it's a big mess. trails aren't perfect. my bike is very muddy now. i just received my new sram rival cranks from ebay, what a deal. saved 66 grams off the cross bike. damn i've become that person. the mrs. called me a republican the other day. I WAS DEEPLY OFFENDED. i think that may sting for awhile. watched a good movie the other night, southie, check it out. review on more sox, gloves, and helmets coming very soon. the beers on monday side project is going well. i hope to have some video up soon, if i can figure out how. i thinking about some new sunglasses. i need to overhaul my fork on the mountain bike. i need time.

brooklyn brewing

after having the brooklyn brew local #2 i thought i might grab another. i looked through the beers only to find that there were no cold #2's. ah but there was a cold #1. 1 is always better than 2 i thought, so i took the chance with the beer. this beer was no let down, a true tasting belgium. this beer is sweet and citrus tasting at the same time. it paired well with the apple and spaghetti i had for diner. this beer is totally awesome. a great summer beer. 9% alcohol and smooth. pick one up, kinda on the high side at $10a bottle but well worth it. 5 wheels on the scale.

orphan finds a home

this was the most tasty beer i've had in a while. 9% alcohol and very smooth. this beer is re-fermented in it's bottle and that's a good thing. the beer has hints of chocolate and spice things that you would look for in a winter beer. these flavors are complemented by some sweetness of honey and dark belgium sugar. that says yum. with the honey and hops this beer still keeps it's dark color but not heavy on the gut. this beer get 5 wheels on the scale. i think the scale goes to 5. if not it does now and the beer reviews return.

you have to love a bottle that has raised letters and logo.

the king fish - an interview with gary fisher

i'll start by saying i was very nervous before the start of this. i emailed gary, he replied and agreed to answer some questions. so, let's begin.

jm= molnar
gf= gary fisher

jm- hello gary john molnar, louisville dirt club.
gf- hello
jm- is this a good time or should i call back?
gf- no, lets do it.

jm- so what's your favorite beer?
gf- shhh, hmmm, that's a hard one. i like beer. there's a little beer bar down the street and they have lots of micro brews. toronados, i go there too much (he laughs)

jm- what's the one thing mountain bikers are doing and not doing for the sport?
gf- what we are doing is building lots of trails in north america and they are awesome trails.
what we are not doing is organizing, but that's the way we've always been...

jm- do you think 29er's are here to stay?
gf- yes, no doubt. germany was the last hold out. their rules are a little different on the world cup. they're on board now. 29er weight is getting better all the time.

jm- steel or aluminum?
gf- steel for longevity and economically is less expensive. aluminum for the weight and it's less expensive than carbon.

jm- what's with all the fish names, is it just because of your last name?
gf- yes.

jm- at any point did you and charlie kelly think "let's hang this up and go ride"?
gf- a few times, charlie is the one guy i totally trust. he invited me down to santa cruz tonight to see the sons of champlin. it's only about 8 miles but i've got other plans.

jm- thanks for your time, gary and have a good night.
gf- have a good night, and thanks.

one question i forgot to ask - if he had one day left to live, what trail would he pick to ride?

what a short but great conversation to have with an icon... good stuff.
gary is a cool guy... man, he's just one of us and that is everything.

beer review

there hasn't been a beer update in months. what the hell is going on. you bunch of slackers i know you've been drinking more and less riding. so what gives. i guess i'll have to get the ball rollin around here again. good work on riders part for trying to stimulate the audience. well i've been sampling several new beers lately at least new to me. so tonight i dove into the sierra nevada torpedo extra ipa. most of you know i like beer with lots of hops. this beer delivers. as i write this my nose is stuffed up. what a nice beverage to go along side my black bean burritos with lots of jalapeno peppers. very bold taste. if you are a fan of the pale ale and you like the hops this is right up your alley. also within the last week i also enjoyed a 6'er of fat tire complements lee hauber. thanks again lee.
