what you've been waiting for

the bike shop reviews are in. so here goes.
clarksville schwinn had on thing to do, install pedals. pretty easy task. if you have metal on metal use some type of lube. no grease on threads. for this they get a failing grade.
mountain bike depot had a pretty easy task. adjust the rear gears. well pretty good, when the shifter was pushed the chain went into the spokes. please check the limit screw and hanger. no passing grade here.
cyclers cafe had a more difficult job. wheel true on the rear. well it was straight but the next time it needs a true i'll need to replace some spoke nipples. use the right tools. not good, no pass.
i will revisit later. gotta get ready for work.

  1. Thats funny, a very objective review...I really doubt that you ever had a bike in here for repair. I know that folks think that you are the "bicycle guru", or rather you do, but come on.

I'll have to start tallying all those wheels I've rebuilt with a green nipple....

    Get a life dude.

  2. look this was a task that i took on just to see what was out there. as for the "guru" i really don't think i'm anything. i'm just a guy that can fix bikes ok. aaron i really don't know you and you don't know me and by your tone i'm sorry if i've taken a stab at you. i can honestly say that no shop including the schellers i work a passed. i would like to see the tally on the green spoke nipple wheels. keep in mind that i haven't touched any bicycles or wheels in over a year. as always the dirt club is open to all and most all comments are welcome. thanks for posting.

  3. you know i've been thinking. i think you misunderstood the purpose of this post. it wasn't to pass judgement or call any shops or people out. the post was ment to draw attention to problems that may be out there. sometimes we get in a rush and may over look something. lets be honest all the riders in town shop around and 8 times out of 10 may go to the net to get parts. lets keep the money local and provide the services that make us shops. during my year off i went into alot of shops and saw and heard lots of things that were just weird. there are a lot of bad attitudes out there and bad info from people who just don't know any better. it's ment to help us the shops give the customers the best service they can get. this post was started on the old dirt club and carried to here. i hope this clears up any things you may have been reading into. oh, as far as the get a life comment you may want to take a look at that. you're the one reading it.

  4. So, failing reviews of local shops is supposed to be a way to encourage people to shop at their LBS? Or is the point that you think shop mechanics will read your blog, see their mistakes and learn from them? Is no review a good review? Link to the DINO series but not the KY Point Series, no listing of CC as a local shop either. Hmmm, do you have an axe to grind?
