Eating the elephant

As John mentioned, it's Ironman weekend in the Ville. Unfortunately, I commented to the PRO (John Hirsch) that stayed with us last year that I wanted to do an Ironman someday. About 5 months ago I got a voice mail from him that said: "Dude, I got you into Ironman. See you on 4th Street, m-fer!"

Sha-what?!

Now I find myself at the end of the journey. One day away from becoming an Ironman. It's hard to really wrap my arms around the entirety of the event and that's probably best. Don't try to eat the elephant all at once. Break it down into bite size pieces.

Yesterday was reality day. We checked in, got weighed (leanest I've been evah) and were given our gear. Today will be spent trying NOT to think about Ironman. Luckily, my oldest daughter is competing in a kids tri out in Hillcrest which will help take our minds off the work ahead.

It's been tough watching the CX fever build and know I've got to wait to finish my journey before starting another. There will be time for CX but now is the time to write the final chapter on Ironman.

For those with a morbid sense of curiosity, my wife will be tweeting throughout the day on my and her accounts. The place to get those is:

See you out there. It's an inspiring event to witness and lots of locals participating. Just don't tell a PRO you might want to do one.
