it's been a ritual, two weeks before the nbl grandnational, the local program puts on a weekend of non-stop action. yesterday, we were greeted by 70 degree temps...no whats up with that??? shouldn't be so hot, you have swamp ass??? not the case here, however, the pro-am and no-bull race were hotter than white hot sun.
mother nature tried to rain it out, but we rode that out. derby city bmx is possibly the best it's ever been on the admin side and track side. no disrespect to the crew in the 80's because they are the GOD fathers of bmx racing here, but the crew running the show now have their stuff together!
so the pro-am was seeded by time trials. Matt Pohlkamp had a blistering lap time of 31. something seconds. followed with Weston Pope, Jeff Upshaw and others. the old man came in at 34. something seconds. i had a dookie lap. it's amazing how much pressure you feel when EVERYONE is watching!!! i was more nervous than some mains i've been in!!! 27 riders came to make a run at the $3,000 + purse...we had semis and in the end, it was Pohlkamp, Upshaw, Pope, Zula, Cherpko, Smith, Me and Wisehart.
the no-bull is a race for 35 + and over and flat pedals only. we also had semis in this one too!!! in the end i came in 2nd for this race...
now...all due respect to all, but i was pulling double duty here. switching from clips, to flats, flast to clips, while everyone else was chillin' for their only race...lol...
it was a great weekend of racing. my hand feels great and i'm really looking forward to putting myself up against the legends and hall of famers come grands!!! here a couple of pics from the weekend...
