I see lots of hard tails in Pisgah, it wouldn't be my first choice but I am always surprised by the number of hard tails I see in Pisgah. I road my hard tail there once, because my FS bike broke the week before I was suppose to go on the trip. I had a good time but there were times I missed the FS.
I haven't riden bent creek yet, but I have been told is smooth and flowy. There is also a short section of the black mountain trail that can be hit in a hour's time. You ride thrift cove up and bomb down a section of black mountain that is fast and has lots of things you can jump off of if you choose or you can just pump over. When you get to the bottom you will want to do the loop again! Plus access is easy to this one, as the trail head black mtn/thrift cove is right off of 276 on the right before you get to the entrance of davis creek camp ground. Don't for get to ride up thrift cove, you wouldn't want to ride up that secton of black mountain.
With Dupont the Cedar rock trail is a must, there is nearly a 360 veiw at the top of this trail. You can climb up big rock trail to get to cedar rock. I would defiantly swing by a bike shop and pick up a map, you can loop together a good 3 hour ride in dupont. Other must rides in dupont are burnt mountain, air strip trail, and then bridal vel falls is something you should see, it is easy to work into the ride without lossing too much time. Corn Mill Shoals is the parking area with the easiest access to MTB trails.
I am currently planning a trip for the 3rd weekend in sept we are planning on riding bent creek, heart break ridge (and all day epic) and spending a day at dupont.
