the new louisville cross park or whatever

the word has come down from the mayor 50 grand for the cx park/course. see tomorrows paper for the details. to me this is great news seeing how rrcc was run and maintained with no money and riders blood and sweat. this being said you'd think that 50 grand is an amazing feet. well in some peoples eyes it seems to be like chump change and from some of the emails i've seen they {being the committee that has a say} act as if it's a slap in the face. bob bobrow seems to think that the 50 grand is nothing. lets look at what we have.
1) a venue to do with as we please
2) bruce fena to build the course
3) a work force ready and waiting for the go
4) a usgp race for the 4th year running
5) rumor of the us nationals coming in the future
6) more than likely more money and maintenance from the city
i really don't see the negative side of getting a large sum of money for something like this, it sure beats the alternative.

  1. wow... that's a a nice surprise, not a slap in the face. i don't know if i'm the only one, but during the course (no pun intended) of all this mayhem and confusion i did not hear talk of a helping hand in the monetary form. $50k is a huge investment to kick off this park. i would hope those who have been kind enough to earmark this money for the new park understand there will always be a handful of nay-sayers, but there will be a much larger cycling community who support and appreciate the gesture.

  2. i with john on this one. sure, i generally try to point out the negatives of a given situation, like how much time that place spends under water, or how flat it is, but i'm steering clear from that. i'm impressed the amount of your tax dollars the city has dedicated to the cross park. this is a good thing. we get another place to ride whcih is always cool. i'm still looking to go it gorilla style at George Rogers if anyone wants to join in.
