State Senate President David Williams, who opposes expanded gambling in Kentucky, reported more than $36,000 in gambling losses in the four-year period from 1999 to 2002.
That's according to documents filed in Cumberland County in Williams' 2003 divorce case and obtained by the Lexington Herald -Leader.
The documents also state that Williams has to have won a greater amount than he lost during that period in order to have reported those losses on his taxes.
Williams is seeking the Republican nomination for governor.
He said on Friday that he has long acknowledged gambling at tracks and casinos. He does not think that is inconsistent with his public opposition to expanded gambling, which he believes is not in the best interest of the people of Kentucky.
