sunday cross?

is this still on? also, i'm curious what the opinions of some of you mountain bikers are out there towards runners and cx'ers on the trails in cherokee (or where ever else)?

i ask cause i rode cherokee last night with a few other people, all on cross bikes, and while we came across a mtb'er or two, there was never really an issue. all this while the other people i was with seemed to have the idea we were very unwelcome having been on cross bikes...

  1. it's a multi-use trail. why does it matter if someone is on a mtn bike, a cross bike or even a bmx bike?! who gave the unwelcome feeling? other mtn bikers? trail runners? either way, that sucks.

it really bothers me hearing about other poeple/cyclists causing bad experiences for other cyclists. especially when that bad experience happens to a cyclist who is a newbie or a friend. i wouldn't worry about it... i'd bring the cross bike out again and have fun out there. fuck the nay-sayers and ones who give dirty looks.

  2. I think the only concern about cross guys at Cherokee and Seneca is that the trails might get altered to make them "cross friendly". Not my concern though. I free lance alter that system myself endlessly. :-D

  3. I personally don't see much difference between the trails in Cherokee and a cycle cross course. With the exception being cycle cross courses have more technical features. I happen to ride a cycle cross bike in Cherokee for that very reason. Maybe that's the loop hole we've been looking for!!! We will inform the city that the trails are now for cycle cross and bmx racing, not mountain biking. My theory is once we convince them of this they will allow us to have obstacles and jumps. I think mountain biking should of done what cycle cross did. Make "Shit in the way" a requirement, not an option. I think you could put an alligator pit on the cross track and get away with it. Just as long as no mountain bikes are allowed. You can have 30' doubles at EP but a bump in the trail gets shoveled. I wouldn't be surprised to start seeing roller blades on the trail. I say keep riding your cross bike, maybe somebody will get the point. As far as non cyclist are concerned, those trails wouldn't even be there if it weren't for bikers. So screw um.

  4. The only people I don't want to see on the trail is the equestrians and the homos doing the rusty trombone or any other sexual act for that matter.

As far as requirements go, I would love to see MTB races, and cycle cross races for that matter where you have to stay on your bike when going over an obstacle other wise time is added to your score.....I love to see how many experts would have to drop back down to sport because of the time they are loosing.

As far as technical features in Cherokee go, I have heard different things about what could be done there to add back technical features that have been lost with some of the reroutes. I know a trail was routed through a technical feature with Olmstead's blessing only to have a group of mtbers take it down without authorization because they new someone that was hurt on it. If risk adverse Jerry could find away to use technical features to sale alcohol we would have some of the most technical trails on the face of the planet.

I will say that building technical features is labor intensive and we never have the labor necessary on trail days to build them. I have been given permission to build rock gardens and even given a supply of rocks to use at Waverly, but again we never have enough help to even consider it..

Ok I will shut up now....
