So got a couple practice laps in up in Bloomington today and loved the course... really looking forward to the race. Call ups, 3rd row, go. Shit start followed immediately by a miss shift on the monster truck start/climb left me for dead on the hill. Made it around a few people and felt good bombing back down the mucky hillside. Good carves through some turns and feeling good half way through the first lap and SLAP! branch to the face and more importantly eye... the only one i've got. eye burning, maybe something it, just keep pedaling and hope it works out. coming out of the wood and into the last set of turns i'm done for. eye on fire, watering and i'm worried as all hell. first DNF and not even a lap into the race. Fuck My Cyclocross.
On a good note I had 4 takers of the Camocan High Life hand-ups for cat-3 and Will had one kindly accept a Triscit. Good racing for some I guess. If anyone actually gives a damn my eye seems fine. blurry vision has subsided and my eye just has a bit of a burn to it. I need some safety glasses.
Jimmy that sucks! I always ride with some sorta glasses... Might be a bug or somethig out there making a beeline for my cornea. $5 WalMart safety shooting glasses work great. Clear lenses and don't make you look like you are hunting, though there is that option

ReplyDeleteI was so out of it at the start I didn't even see you and I was probably standing right next to you in the 3rd row. Saw you cheering, and was like WTF Jimmy. Bummer on the eye, glad your ok now. I ate shit crossing the first bridge trying to hop over another guy who ate shit in front of me. Shoulder a little sore. Next time I am running over the guy in front, no more dodge'em. Sorry dudes, safety first.
ReplyDeleteha! yeah i was one guy over from you at the start i think and must have been behind and to the right of you when that guy ate shit on the bridge. barely missed him as he tumbled into the bog. great 1st lap all around!
